Excess Coverage

Excess coverage provides additional coverage limits for the purpose of increasing limits. This is accomplished by “stacking” a second (policy) layer of coverage over, or on top of the first (primary) policy. This is done to increase limits when the primary carrier is unable or unwilling to write the entire limit amount requested by the insured.

When stacking limits the Excess coverage will usually follow the terms and conditions of the underlining primary policy.
